As the Riviera Club x Lucky Brand collaboration hits stores this month we wanted to ask Greg Ullery (one of the founders of RC) – a few questions about his personal style, Riviera Club and his new role at Lucky Brand . . .
ABOUT THE MAN
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in a small town in North County San Diego called Fallbrook.
Describe your personal style?
Hopefully my own . . . at least I think it is.
Favorite color?
White . . . Although some have debated whether or not White is a color . . . either way . . . I would still pick White.
Favorite vacation destination?
California
What do you love about living in Cali?
I love the fact that in the same day you can be skiing in the morning and be surfing in the afternoon. Also, I love California because it is home.
ABOUT THE BRAND
Who are your partners & how did you meet?
I have two partners at Riviera Club, Joe Sadler and Derek Buse. Derek and I met at college in San Diego. Joe and I met on a golf course in Santa Barbara and that same day Derek, Joe and myself made the decision to start Riviera Club.
How did the Lucky & Riveria Club collaboration come about?
The entire RC X LB collaboration has been very organic and natural. We received a phone call from Lucky asking if we would like to come down to meet the team to discuss a possible collaboration. So . . . Derek, Joe and myself went down to meet with the Lucky Brand team in downtown Los Angeles . . . and by the end of the meeting we had made the decision to work on this collaboration.
What are your 3 favorite pieces from the fall 2012 collection & why?
1. B-Dog Jeans; with a light vintage wash with paint. This jean is a great representation of the RCXLB collaboration. The jean was constructed out of Candiani Denim from Italy. The green selvedge denotes the fact that this denim is made from organic cotton and is eco-friendly.
2. Bacara Sweater; is another favorite. I love this piece because it is the perfect weight and it is extremely soft. It is a sweater blazer that can be dressed up or down.
3. Jalama Hoodie; is a definite favorite. Everything about this sweatshirt is great. It is a super soft tri-blend French terry with a triangle pocket. Jalama is an amazing surf spot north of Santa Barbara. One of the best things about this sweatshirt is that it was cut and sewn right here in Los Angeles.
You are now working with Lucky Brand as a designer? What can we look forward to in the upcoming deliveries for men?
Yes, I am now working with Lucky Brand and I feel so fortunate to be apart of a great team. We have worked very hard to design and create the best product possible. For upcoming deliveries you can expect classic looks with a contemporary twist to them. Our shared vision in Men’s design is to create a familiar look and style that is approachable but with further interest one will notice the details. We are doing our best to offer great style in amazing colors, fits and details that are relevant. Telling a story to our customers in the collection is also a very important piece to the puzzle.
Any style advice you would like to share with the Lucky guys out there?
In anything you wear . . . make it your own. Wear what makes you feel good and don’t be afraid to wear and try new things.
